By describing the mans life and his attitude toward the war, the proofreader assumed that OBrien researched the man to find information about him to use for his book.
This made the passage seem real, but in fact it wasnt. OBrien simply described what he snarl and what it was like for him to fight in the war. He told the reader the truth, but he uses a fictional situation to tell it.
Fictional truth allowed OBrien to tell a story that wouldnt seem believable if he told the whole truth and cypher but the truth. Using the technique, OBrien made stories to describe the personalities of the bulk around him, the unfamiliarity of his surroundings, and the simple but grotesque modality the people he knew were killed.
